A Thought Went Up in My Mind To-day. Poem by Emily Dickinson. Mezzotints by Judith Rothchild.

[Octon France]: Verdigris Press, 2014. Artist's book, one of 10 copies from a total issue of 14, all on Hahnemulhe paper, each copy signed and numbered by the artist, Judith Rothchild. Page size: 4 x 3-3/8 inches; 10pp. Bound by the printer, Mark Lintott, in Venetian marbled ochre and lime papers over boards, leporello-style, titled debossed in blind on front cover, also title printed in black on Venetian marbled paper affixed to brown linen spine of book, slipcase housed in matching ochre colored-paper over boards slipcase. Emily Dickinson's elusive text is set in black in Univers and printed along the bottom of the leporello pages. Judith Rothchild's ephemeral mezzotints (6) of elements from the natural world - snail and snail shell, leaves both singly and grouped - seem to be blown across the pages - caught by the wind and resting momentarily above Dickinson's lines. A small book - but beautiful and touching. Ms. Rothchild's affinity for the natural world reveals a real kinship with the poet. Item #10804
