A Day Is Gone. Sarah Plimpton.

A Day Is Gone.

[New York: 2010]. Artist's book, one of 15 copies, all on Arches paper, each signed and numbered by the author / artist, Sarah Plimpton, Page size: 8-7/8 x 11-5/8 inches; 20pp. Bound: loose as issued in black wrappers with title printed on white label on front cover, housed in custom-made red cloth over boards clamshell box by Claudia Cohen.. Sarah Plimpton has written a poem and created a series of aquatints, continuous over the 20 pages. The text is set in Minion and printed letterpress with the help of Brad Ewing at The Grenfell Press. The aquatints were editioned by Peter Pettengil from plates made and proofed by the artist at the Manhattan Graphics Center. Ms. Plimpton's meditation on the passing of another day is made more ominous by the black, menacing aquatint images of sharp edges combined with areas that resonate with references to relief maps of the earth and shafts of light illuminating a blank landscape.
